Las
Eddie Koiki Mabo was born and raised in the village of Las, on the eastern fringe of Murray Island.
It's the first place on the island to see the rising sun; and it bears the full brunt of the easterly winds that sweep in from the Coral Sea.
Las is the home of the Piadaram Clan.
Here, Murray Island's religious leaders, the Zogo-le, held their ceremonies to honour Malo, the octopus God.
