A Sacred Landscape
More Information

Nearly a century after dispossession first began, educated Australians "discovered" that aboriginal property ownership was systematic and based on kinship groups. But it wasn't until the 1930's that anthropologists began to understand the religious dimension to the bond between the people and their land.

This challenged the colonial notion that Aboriginal beliefs were superstitious. Aboriginal thought, they argued, contained a rich religious tradition, which linked people to the land.
