In September 1989, seven years after the first writ was filed in Canberra, the Supreme Court in Brisbane finally adjourned. Justice Moynihan retired to consider and write his findings for the High Court, and Eddie Mabo retired to the family in Townsville, and the children who'd grown up while he fought his case.

He spent his time waiting for Justice Moynihan's report by working on his boat which his neighbours nicknamed 'Noah's Ark'.

Throughout the 12 months Judge Moynihan took to write his findings Eddie remained supremely confident about the justice of his crusade.
