Koiki's Wish Fulfilled
On September the eighteenth 1995, Koiki's wish was fulfilled. In a moving ceremony at Las, his remains were interred in their final resting place, the site of Benny Mabo's former garden, where young Koiki had learnt to grow yams and sweet potatoes.
Among the Islanders who came to pay their last respects, was a strong sense that this was where Koiki really belonged.
The tombstone, with a new bronze bust, was resurrected and unveiled, finally releasing the Mabo family from mourning.
