Increasing Popularity Of Land Rights
Public support for land rights grew quickly in the 1960s.
In July 1969, a land rights manifesto from the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders found broad support within the Australian Labor Party. Trade Unions and churches also played a role in changing popular attitudes, as Aborigines travelled from their mission homes to address meetings and church congregations across the nation.
