Cambridge Anthropological Expedition
More Information
In 1898, two years after the Murray Island School became a registered state school, a team of seven scientists from Cambridge University visited the Torres Strait.

They spent seven months there, conducting most of their research on Mer, and on Mabuiag the mother island of western Torres Strait.

These British scholars, lead by Alfred Cort Haddon, produced the six volume "Reports of the Cambridge Anthropological Expedition to the Torres Straits".

They were very thorough and produced detailed archival material, which included maps, sketches, correspondence, even sound recordings and a short film.
