The Legacy Of A Tiny Island
More Information

Narration:
Mabo - four letters that have come to stand for a legal revolution.

The islanders victory in the highe court has changed the world in which we live. It has introduced the possibility of a reconciliatition between black and white Australians.

But the victory also reaffirmed one of the strengths of our society. After 200 years of European occupation our judiciary were able to correct an historical wrong, by overturning 'terra nullius'.

This is the legacy of Eddie Mabo, his fellow palintiffs and their tiny island.

Reverend Dave Passi:
Malo is not only talking to a Murray Islander, but to the rest of the world, 'Tag mauki mauki, teter mauki mauki'. Your hand must not take you to steal what is other people's.
