Michael Dodson, former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner and Chair of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies:
'Native title exists for Indigenous peoples whether or not it is recognised by non-Indigenous law. If this is understood, it should be clear why it is of small comfort to us that we are forced to prove our native title in an imposed legal system.'
