...Primary Teacher...
In 1981 Eddie enrolled in a primary teachers' course at James Cook University. Having successfully run the Black Community School for eight years and been a member of the National Aboriginal Education Committee he wanted to gain a professional qualification. He particularly enjoyed the subject, Early Childhood Development, and felt that his busy activist life had denied him the opportunity to experience his own children's growth. After more than two years of study Mabo decided not to become a teacher, he felt he was not suited to working with young children in the classroom.
