'Nine o'clock the bell rang and that was the time no-one was allowed to walk to another village or even to see his own relations. Nine o'clock they blew the bu shell. The Island Councillors from that time were just like "Yes" men. I personally call those days the days of darkness. The Protector was like king without a crown. I hate to think back to those days now.'
