'Eddie Mabo was an independent mind and was determined to pursue a course he believed to be just in law and beneficial for the advancement of his community. Amongst all of this definitely there was an element of egotism, of conceit, of self centred devotion to the advancement of a cause he believed in and if other people didn't believe in it, well too bad. But that's the nature of this type of agitator, revolutionary, intellectual, political leader.'
