Barrister Bryan Keon Cohen writes that these Islander witnesses for Queensland were 'called ... to contest not so much the existence of the traditional "system" [of customs and traditions dealing with land], but the entitlement of various plaintiffs to particular portions of land, for example through disputed inheritance, and the metes and bounds of various claimed portions of land.'
