...warn the Meriam of danger ...
Maber, the bu or trumpet shell echoes the murmuring of the sea at the Great Barrier Reef as heard at the Murray Islands. It was blown to warn the Meriam of danger on land or sea. It was heard on solemn occasions on the death of one of the priests of Malo. In more recent times it was blown to bring all the Meriam together for the first turtle ceremony. It may be taken as the voice of the sea issuing a warning.
