That night, Murray Islanders danced to celebrate the life of Eddie Mabo and what his famous High Court victory meant for them. The entire day had been one of joyous celebration, and was a big success for the Mabo family because so many people from the wider Australian community had come to celebrate Koiki's life. The tombstone opening was imbued with the spirit of reconciliation.
